Additional Considerations

  • WSIB (Workplace Safety and Insurance Board)
    • Insurance in the event of a work accident that would prevent an employee from working.
    • It is legally required, but most employers do not get this for nannies due to the low risk of something happening at work

  • If your nanny just came to Canada
    • Make sure she gets a SIN number
    • Let her know that she can apply for OHIP (Ontario Health Insurance Plan) 3 months after arriving in Canada. She must take a letter from you that she is employed by you.
  • First Aid Course
    • Most nannies have training from abroad which may or may not be good
    • $49 paid by you for the nanny to take a 1 or 2 day weekend course may save a life, and your nanny will have a certification from North America
    • For example, St. John's Ambulance
